The Hip Hop Library is a non-profit 501(c)(3) starting in October 2020 serving as a virtual and physical library with the objective of encouraging our communities to READ and to have access to educational chronicles of Hip-Hop Culture while preserving, documenting, and sharing this culture and history especially Philadelphia Hip Hop Culture.

Another objective of the Library is to promote literacy for disadvantaged children and youth in the Philadelphia and Delaware counties linking their love of hip hop to changing their lives through literacy. The organization began with two basic assumptions: (1) the hip hop community is unaware of librarianship and the resources that are offered by public libraries

(2) with the impact of violence occurring in the community, there is a need to redirect negative energy of young people towards more rewarding activities, resources, and opportunities while connecting them to caring adults, and providing a safe, structured, environment to learn.

The Library has been working within communities to educate, give back, and provide opportunities for: Civic and Community Engagement: After-school and summer enrichment programs including stem/steam activities, Scholastic ESports; tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, work study, book club membership; and a premier children’s story time program.

The Hip Hop Library is much more than just a collection of books and music, it's a hub of creativity and community. Led by Malika and the Hip Hop Library team, we are committed to empowering young people to express themselves authentically through the arts, while engaging and educating the broader community about hip hop culture. Whether you're a lifelong fan or new to the scene, we invite you to join us on our mission to uplift and celebrate this vibrant and influential form of art.

We seek to create a diverse inclusive community supporting one another and serving as a prime source of information for research and educational purposes and preserving hip hop culture through documentation and sharing of the chronicles.
